Parents may be able to migrate to Australia using a Parent Visa if they have a child in Australia who is an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident or an eligible New Zealand citizen.
To be eligible, parents must have an eligible sponsor, meet health and character requirements and pass the balance of family test.
There are several available pathways (Contributory, Non-Contributory and Visitor) and scenarios that are constantly changing. Some of these options can be really expensive or have significantly long wait times.
If parents are aged under 65 years and meet the ‘balance of family’ test (50% of the parents’ children are ‘settled’ in Australia as permanent residents or citizens), they may be eligible to make an application for parent visa sub-class 173 and subsequently to permanent visa sub-class 143.
Parents above the age of 65 may be eligible for aged parent temporary visa sub-class 884 and subsequently for aged parent permanent visa sub-class 864.
